CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Joanna A. Blake is a Jamaican business woman who serves as CEO of JAB Work and Travel International Limited, a privately-owned Cultural Exchange agency in Kingston, Jamaica. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Science (major) and Cultural Studies (minor) from the University of the West Indies, Mona campus.
Joanna was born in Kingston, Jamaica on November 19th to father Ruel G. Blake and mother Sophia J. Fisher. Her father is of African descent while her mother is from mixed race and both were born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Ruel is known for his outstanding mathematical skills as he was once a Mathematics teacher now Real Estate owner while Sophia is an entrepreneur.
Between the years 2003 to 2010 Joanna attended one of the prominent traditional high schools in Jamaica called Holy Childhood High School, where she obtained nine (9) CSEC and seven (7) CAPE subjects. In the same year she graduated sixth form, she enrolled in the prestigious University of the West Indies. In her early teenage years her dream was always to pursue a career in Software Development while taking on acting roles in theatre and television productions simultaneously. As a result, after graduating from UWI in 2014 she procured job experience by doing internships in various organizations as a Programmer as well as a Quality Assurance Analyst. After three (3) years she realized her love for traveling and culturally diverse engagements and topics was superseding that of her first love which was Software Engineering.
During her tenure at the UWI, in years 2012 and 2013 she was a participant of the J1 summer work and travel program where she was a lifeguard. Her life changed instantaneously by the positive impact the program left on her psychologically. Not only did her attitude towards life changed for the better, her understanding of the world and other people improved tremendously. Remarkably, she started taking personal trips just to site see different states, converse and interact with others of diverse cultures in the United States of America to grow both personally and professionally.
On July 31, 2017 JAB Work and Travel International Limited was established by Joanna, at age 25, out of her dire need to play a role in helping to improve the world and contribute to world peace via cultural integration. JAB is purposefully tailored to offer affordable services to the Jamaican youth (tertiary level students) to experience all she had experienced and more. She believes “the world is a book and those who do not travel only read one page”. She is very passionate and determine to develop open-minded, balanced and functional young professionals who will be the future leaders of a better tomorrow.
Ecclesiastes 9:11: “I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
International students between the ages of 18-28, will be given the opportunity to work in jobs where they can enjoy outdoors, meet new people, improve their English, teach activities they are excited about and learn all about new cultures of others. Camping has been a part of many countries culture for a very long time. As such, American summer camp jobs are designed to be rewarding, fun and exciting. J-1 participants will be responsible for supervising groups of diverse cultured youth. Students who possess special skills and talents are normally the ones who shines the most in this program. It is very important that one not only hone his or her special gifts but share them with others as this aid with the self-development process of one self and others as well. Non-counseling chores are also an essential part of camp life therefore few camp staff will also be considered.
Young professionals and future leaders who are enrolled in tertiary level institutions from all over the world get a chance to visit the United States of America to share their culture as well as experience the culture of others for up to three to four months. While working in temporary positions during the summer holidays (May - September), they get to gain real world job experience and learn both personal and professional important skills while discovering life in the USA. Remarkably, American businesses are positively impacted in return due to the valuable seasonal help and benefits from these participants with an international look and a dynamic energy. This program in its entirety contributes to public diplomacy and to a more peaceful world.
It is always a good look for any university student to gain real work experience in their field of study. As a result, U.S. Department of State designated sponsors are happy to aid international J-1 students and young professionals with internship and trainee programs that last up to 18 months in the USA. American employers are readily waiting and eager to share their unique perspective and offer valuable professional development opportunities through hands on training to all participants.

All participants of the cultural exchange program need a valid J1 visa. The purpose of JAB and associated sponsors is to assist students in acquiring this visa type at the US consulate before working in the USA.
You definitely can source other jobs; however, you should communicate this with your sponsor for approval and record keeping. Note: new hours should never clash with main job hours.
Job assist applicants should work in the states JAB has contracts in; while self-placed applicants can choose the state their employers are in (these employers must be approved by our designated sponsors).
The purpose of the program is to gain invaluable cultural experience. It's not guaranteed you will make back your money. However, it has been proven countless times that with a go-getter attitude and great work ethics you can make adequate amount of funds to offset expenses in the USA and when return home.
Being exposed to different people and cultures positively impacted how I think and how I see as well as treat others. I definitely recommend JAB to students who are seeking to have a different outlook on life! 😊
